Last Tuesday I participated in this summer's first Splash and Dash (pronounced Splaish n Daish by yours truely). It's a .75k swim follered by a 3k run. One lap *in* the quarry (open water whatwhat!) three laps *around* the quarry. It's ten bucks, the group is doing one a month April - September. There's burgers and hotdogs afterwards, it's awesome. I'm looking forward to doing every one and improving my time each race. I had all sorts of folks who said they were going to do it with me, though they all ended up bailing on me. Next time at least two or three will be by my side.
Here's a picture of the quarry itself.
There were just over 150 participants, which I guess is a big deal because if they hadn't passed that threshold the event wouldn't have qualified as a wave1 USAT sanctioned event or something. All I know is, when it was announced everyone cheered....
Jeremiah (first shot) and Troy (second shot) came to cheer me on. Jeremiah ran the last lap around the quarry with me. He apparently forgot what he was doing, because halfway through the last lap he kicked it into top gear and after the second to last turn he was out of sight.... I was screaming and yelling for him... oh well, it was nice for him to come out and support. Now that I think about it, he had been speaking with some girl both before and after the race. I wonder if he saw her or something...
Troy clearly had one takeaway from the event, as afterwords all he would say was "Jimmy, these are world class athletes!" in regards to all the older folks and females that were there that I think were intimidating to him. I won a water bottle, Jeremiah won a pair of goggles (that Troy is modeling for the crowd below) just for being there. I think between us we had seven hotdogs, two beers, three bananas and who knows how many chips, all provided by the race. I didn't want to tell 'em, but they lost big time on my ten bucks. Kelsey made it to the event (thanks kels!) but it was after everything was over (she had her own event at work that evening) and the camera had already been put away.

Thanks for the group photos, and the link for the results of the event.
Wish there was such a thing around here, cuz I KNOW yer Ma would like to do it as well.
In case you guys don't realize it, SHE'S a WORLD CLASS INDIVDUAL her own self!
Wow, Bobo, that sounds cool! Thanks for the pictures...if there hadn't been pictures included, people might have thought you were talking about changing Aaron's diaper (although, maybe that would be titled spray and dash? :))
