I've read about these a few times. Runner's World did an article about them a while ago. The theory is that you can run more efficiently barefoot and that running shoes can cause problems. These are supposed to protect your feet from cuts and scrapes, but still allow "barefoot" running.

I've seen them plenty of times! They look awfully uncomfortable to me but people seem to like them!
